Earlier this month, Christopher Nolan shared his feelings about Warner Bros. released his 2021 video on HBO Max, and in a recent interview with Washington Post, he doubled down on those feelings, and threw in some French for the record. “It’s about what the French call droit moral,” Nolan told the Post of the decision. “Do they absolutely have it because they paid for it or funded it? And that’s not a purely legal question; it is also a matter of ethics. It’s a matter of partnership and collaboration. They didn’t speak to those filmmakers. They have not consulted them about what their plans were for their work. And I thought someone should point out that that was not the right way to treat those filmmakers. Nolan went on to explain that he publicly criticized the decision because “[Warner Bros.] did not speak to the filmmakers, they did not speak to the theater chains. They did not speak to the production partners about the films. Nolan, who has made nine films with Warner Bros., did not comment on the future of his relationship with the studio before the Post.
