Chinese phone maker Honor has partnered with key chip vendors following Huawei’s split

SHENZHEN, China, Jan. 22 (Reuters) – Chinese budget phone manufacturer Honor has signed partnerships with major chip vendors such as Intel and Qualcomm after splitting off from subordinate parent Huawei Technologies last year in an effort to bail it out, it said Friday.

Huawei had sold Honor in November to a consortium of 30 sub-brand agents and dealers to help it resume sourcing of components limited by US sanctions.

While Chief Executive George Zhao launched its first phone model since the split, Honor said in a statement that it now has its own deals with a number of tech companies.

These include AMD, MediaTek, Micron Technology, Microsoft, Samsung, SK Hynix and Sony. (Reporting by David Kirton; edited by Clarence Fernandez)
