Federal regulators released a terrifying video of a child being dragged under a Platoon Tread + – as it warned consumers with children and pets to stop using the exercise equipment immediately.
The video shared by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission on Saturday showed a young boy playing near a Platoon Tread +, with the ball he is using getting trapped under the equipment and being pulled underneath.
In the clip, the boy struggles to free himself from the $ 4,295 exercise machine.
The safety committee said Saturday it is aware of 39 incidents involving the treadmill, including one child who has died.
“CPSC staff believe the Platoon Tread + poses serious risks to children from abrasions, fractures and death,” the agency said.
“In light of multiple reports of children becoming trapped, trapped and pulled under the rear roll of the product, CPSC is urging consumers with children at home to immediately discontinue use of the product.”
Peloton customers who wish to continue to use machines should keep them in an enclosed area, away from children and pets – and they should unplug them when not in use and keep all other objects away from them, said the desk.
Meanwhile, Platoon said in a statement that the safety commission’s warning was “inaccurate and misleading.”
“Peloton is disappointed that, despite its offer to collaborate and despite the fact that the Tread + complies with all applicable safety standards, CPSC was unwilling to engage in meaningful discussions with Peloton before publishing its inaccurate and misleading press release,” the statement said . .
It added that “there is no reason to stop using the Tread + as long as all warnings and safety instructions are followed.”
