Chicago COVID Vaccine Trial To Begin At Lurie Children’s Hospital; here’s how to enroll your child

CHICAGO (WLS) – Lurie Children’s Hospital is looking for candidates to enroll in its pediatric COVID-19 vaccine trial.

Parents who wish to enroll their child or children in a future study are asked to register their interest online. Children between 6 months and 12 years old can participate.

According to the physician leading the trial at Lurie Children’s, studies in children under 12 years of age for both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are expected to begin within three to six weeks.

Dr. William Muller said it will likely take three to four months for the studies to fully enroll participants, and that there will be at least a few months of follow-up thereafter to have sufficient data for FDA review.

Therefore, Dr. Muller said the earliest vaccine for children is fall or winter. However, he said it seems likely that adoption will continue to involve younger groups of children, such as 6-12 years old, then 2-6 years old, and then 6 months – 2 years.
