Chet Hanks faces backlash after announcing that “White Boy Summer” will be coming soon.
“I just got the feeling it’s going to be a white boy’s summer this summer,” he said deadpanded to his Instagram followers. “Take it however you want.”
“I’m not talking about Trump, NASCAR type white,” he continued, “I’m talking about, you know, I [R&B artist] Jon B, [rapper] Jack Harlow type white boy summer. Let me know if you guys can talk to that and get ready, because I am. “
The phrase is a play on words based on rapper Megan Thee Stallion’s song “Hot Girl Summer” and the internet meme, which encourages women to embrace their sexy side during the hottest time of the year.
Chet’s comedic outlook didn’t sit well with social media, though, as several followers called him out for the video, as well as potentially embarrassing parents, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.
“Chet Hanks is proof that you can do anything right in the world and kids will still embarrass you,” wrote an observer, with one more addition, “Are we sure Chet Hanks is Tom and Rita’s biological offspring? Something just isn’t right. “
Chet has previously been accused of cultural appropriation, last year with a fake Jamaican accent, much to the chagrin of many within the Caribbean community.
