Charles Martinet may not have been asked to vote Mario in the upcoming movie

There are many questions about Nintendo and Illumination’s upcoming Super Mario movie, but one of the biggest concerns Mario will be voicing. Frankly, we don’t even know if Mario will be voiced or not! You could imagine Mario will have some sort of rules in the movie as he intervenes in the games from time to time.

While we wait to find out more about the voice cast for the movie, it appears that the voice of Mario we all know and love may not be involved in the project. In a GalaxyCon Live interview with none other than Charles Martinet, he is asked his thoughts on the upcoming movie. Part of Charles’ answer is as follows.

“… when they invite me to play, I will go in and play with great joy and happiness.”

Now that can be taken in two different ways. The most obvious way is that Mr. Martinet was simply not asked to play the part. The second way to look at it is that we take Charles’s comments as reserved. It’s likely that Charles wouldn’t be able to confirm / deny his work on the film, so the careful wording of the above statement might get around the question.

There’s no doubt fans will be upset if Mr. Martinet doesn’t portray Mario in the movie, but big-name movies tend to work with Hollywood star power to push their projects. We’ll just have to wait and see which direction Nintendo and Illumination are headed.
