CBS sitcom ‘Mom’ ends with season 8

The hit CBS sitcom “Mom”, starring Emmy winner Allison Janney, ends after the current eighth season.

Chuck Lorre’s comedy about a group of addicts – including Janney’s lead character Bonnie – concludes with the May 6 season finale, which Variety says will serve as the series ender.

The move comes after Anna Faris, who plays Bonnie’s daughter Christy, shockedly left the series just before Season 8 production began in September.

“For the past eight years, we’ve had the great honor of bringing these amazing characters to life and sharing their struggles and triumphs with millions of viewers every week,” executive producers Lorre, Gemma Baker and Nick Bakay said in a statement.

“From the start, we wanted to tell stories of recovery from alcoholism and addiction that are rarely portrayed in a network comedy series. Whether it’s the emotional reactions of the live audience at stage 20 band night, or White House discussions about the opioid crisis, or the personal stories we continue to receive on social media, we’re proud to know that MOM has positively impacted so many lives. We are forever grateful to our brilliant cast and guest stars, great writers and great crew for traveling with us. “

Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment, added that the show, produced by Warner Bros. Television, “has touched people’s lives by tackling sensitive yet recognizable subjects sensitively, with a perfect, deft touch.”

On Tuesday’s episode of Ellen DeGeneres’s talk show of the same name, Janney, 61, told viewers that “it was very weird” that Faris, 44, was no longer on the show, adding, “She’s been sorely missed. and her character on the show is being missed and we are just happy that she is doing what she wants to do now and we are even more happy that we can still tell these stories about these amazing women and recovery.

“And I think there are some really great characters established,” she continued. “And people love the show, so we’ll keep telling the stories for as long as possible.”

In a statement announcing her departure last year, Faris called her seven years on the show “one of the most rewarding and rewarding in my career.”

The show’s regular cast also includes Jaime Pressly, Mimi Kennedy, Beth Hall, Kristen Johnston and William Fichtner. A number of other performers have appeared as recurring and guest stars over the years, including Yvette Nicole Brown, Ellen Burstyn, Kristin Chenoweth, Beverly D’Angelo, Patti LuPone, Joe Manganiello, Emily Osment, Kevin Pollak, Richard Schiff, June Squibb , Octavia Spencer, French Stewart (originally a regular series), Kathleen Turner, Steven Weber, Bradley Whitford and Rainn Wilson.

The final episode will air Thursday, May 6 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
