CBS launches review after Sharon Osbourne clashes with co-host over Piers Morgan

CBS has launched an internal review after Sharon Osbourne clashed with co-host Sheryl Underwood over Osbourne’s support of former ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter Piers Morgan following his departure from the show.

“We are committed to a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace,” CBS said in a statement to The Hill. “All matters relating to the Wednesday episode of ‘The Talk’ are currently under internal review.”

Part of Wednesday’s episode got tense after Underwood asked Osbourne what she would say to those who viewed Osbourne’s support for Morgan as racist.

“In fact, I feel like I’m about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend who a lot of people think is a racist, so that makes me a racist. And for me, at the age of 68, to turn around and say, ‘I’m not a racist’ – what does that have to do with me? “Osbourne said.” How can I be racist about anyone? How can I be racist about someone or something in my life? How can I? ”

Underwood calmly led the show to a hiatus. When the show returned, Osbourne demanded to know from Underwood that Morgan’s previous comments and behavior were racist.

Morgan stormed off the show on Tuesday after a fellow presenter confronted him with the comments. Morgan left the show later that day.

After Morgan left, Osbourne tweeted, “@piersmorgan I’m with you. I will assist you. People forget that you are being paid for your opinion and that you are just speaking your truth. ”

When the conversation returned to “The Talk,” Osbourne repeatedly urged Underwood to explain why Morgan’s actions were racist.

“I’ll ask you again, Sheryl. I asked you during recess. I’m asking you again, and try not to cry, because if someone should be crying, it should be me, ”said Osbourne. Tell me where you heard him say. Educate me. Tell me if you heard him say racist things and teach me. Tell me!”

Underwood then calmly explained that she did not directly accuse Osbourne of being racist, but that she felt Morgan was racist towards Meghan in his position. The segment then cooled when co-hosts Elaine Welteroth and Amanda Kloots joined the discussion.

Osbourne apologized for the exchange on Twitter on Friday after backlash.

“To anyone of color I’ve offended and / or anyone who feels confused or disappointed by what I said, I’m really sorry,” she said. “I panicked, felt blinded, became defensive and showed my fear and horror of being accused of being racially taken over.”

Morgan demanded on Friday that “The Talk” apologize to Osbourne about the meeting.

“Sharon has been embarrassed and bullied to apologize for defending me against colleagues who accuse me of racism because I don’t believe Meghan Markle’s bullshit,” Morgan tweeted. ‘This is where we arrived. I demand an apology from those @TheTalkCBS bullies for their outrageous statements against ME. ”
