Cayetano Heredia’s Medicine is the first professional career for which Sunedu | Licensed News

Sunedu granted the license for the professional career of medicine from Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University (UPCH) for a period of ten years, after verifying the existence of the Basic Quality Conditions (CBC).

It is the first professional career in Peru to receive the license. “It is a priority career that has a public service nature and has a major impact on people’s lives, safety or health,” said the National Superintendency of Higher University Education.

The entity recalls that since 2007 in Peru it had not been verified whether medical schools or faculties met the minimum quality standards, so that the evaluation of medicine programs – which Sunedu implemented at the end of 2019 – represents a mechanism for the protection of individual and social well-being that strives for comprehensive training of health professionals.

Given the specialization of these programs, the evaluation team is made up of expert medical professionals with extensive experience in university education and in academic evaluation and accreditation processes.

What was evaluated?

The permit for this program evaluated the suitability of the educational profiles, the equipment of the laboratories in accordance with the curricula of each program, the adequacy of the clinical and social health areas for academic activities at the different levels of care and the provision of health services biosafety for teachers and students, among other fundamental aspects, to ensure adequate training of medical students.

The license granted to UPCH’s professional career is valid for 10 years. This term, the maximum to be awarded, has been determined on the basis of variables related to research and training, such as the total number of publications in indexed journals in the past five years, the citation level of their publications and the average score achieved in the past five years. three years by all doctors who have taken the National Medical Exam.

To date, the Superintendency is evaluating an additional 18 applications to license medicine programs. For this new process, a fully digitized procedure has been designed: the procedure is electronic, with digital signatures and without the need to present physical documents.

Finally, the licensing of the undergraduate programs in medicine represents a second milestone in Sunedu’s work, moving towards the path of academic excellence, with a firm commitment to continue to ensure quality in the training of medical professionals what I will bring about improvements in public health and the quality of life of citizens, the institution indicates.

About the university

The Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia was founded on September 22, 1961 and obtained an institutional license on July 27, 2016, with a validity of the license for 10 years. The Medicine Program is offered at two locations in the districts of San Martín de Porres and La Molina, in Lima.

As of 2018-II, it has 1,141 enrolled students per semester, 701 teachers, 294 regular teachers, and 47 full-time teachers. In addition, there are 123 teachers affiliated with research, 22 (6.64%) teachers Renacyt and 632 publications affiliated with the university between the years 2015-2020.
