Caty Serna, filmmaker and wife of Jaime Lozano, is going for an Oscar

Mexico City /

With a short film called “My brother Luca” that addresses the issue of autism, Mexican Catalina Serna was nominated for the Oscars of the United States Film Academy. Caty Serna is the wife of technical director Jaime Lozano and they both have a son with autism.

The story of the short film is precisely about the difficulty the family had in finding a school for the child to enter.

“The idea for the short film was born because we moved to Mexico City, our son Luca was rejected from 21 private schools. They haven’t met him or seen his grades, they said: no autism.

“That’s why we wanted to raise awareness about autism, because there isn’t one, not in schools or in jobs. It was an important topic and we wanted to reach as many people as possible, which is why we made the short film, ”he told TUDN.

The short has taken part in more than 30 festivals, including the Morelia International Film Festival, and has won two international awards, one in Spain and one in the United States.

“It’s very important, like all parents, we always have expectations when we’re going to have a child and of course they change a lot with a diagnosis like the one we had with Luca, but it’s my motivation because he’s my everything.

“I see myself reflected in many of the things he does as a child and I am happy to have him, to be with my family, and these times of pandemic give me the opportunity to be with them,” said JImmy Lozano, Luca’s father and father. technical director of the Mexican national under-23 team.

The fact is, you don’t have to worry.
