With Fox’s Prodigal Son returning with the Season 2 premiere on January 12, the show will be getting a new addition to the cast later this season.
According to a Fox press release, Catherine Zeta-Jones has signed up for the series regular role of Dr. Vivian Capshaw.
The 51-year-old actress teams up with Michael Sheen, who is also from her home country of Wales and is making her ‘second half of the season’ debut.

In the second season, Sheen’s Dr. Martin Whitly is assigned to the infirmary, where he meets Capshaw.
Capshaw, “enjoy commissioning ‘The Surgeon’ to clean bedpans and mop the floor,” the official description read.
Surprisingly, Capshaw sees Whitley becoming “valuable in treating patients,” as she begins, “seeing him in a new light … which is not good.”

Prodigal Son returns for its second season in a new night on Tuesday, January 12 at 9:00 PM ET on Fox.

The show was the No. 1 new series to debut last fall, averaging 9.3 million viewers across multiple platforms.
The show follows Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne), a criminal profiler with a rare talent for getting into the heads of killers.
He learned how to think because his father, Martin Whitly, was an infamous serial killer known as ‘The Surgeon’.

Now he’s using his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve their most enigmatic murders.
The show also stars Aurora Perrineau as Detective Dani Powell, JT Tarmel as Detective Frank Harts, and Keiko Agena as Dr. Edrisa Tanaka.
The second season begins with Malcolm trying to care for his sister Ainsley (Halston Sage) while protecting his mother Jessica (Bellamy Young) from a secret that could tear the family apart.
The season also follows Martin as he “wants to deepen his relationship with Bright, his prodigal son, but forging this bond leads to shocking twists and turns and revelations.”
