Carmen Yulín Cruz will receive $ 54,364 for settlement

Upon leaving the town hall, the Mayor of San Juan, Carmen Yulín Cruz, will receive $ 54,364, which corresponds to her settlement of the days accrued in both her regular leave (vacation) and sick leave and a surplus of days accrued in her regular leave , as announced in a message via Twitter.

Cruz accompanied the message with a photo of the document, which is a statement from the San Juan Municipality of license balances to be paid for segregation of services.

The popular leader said she disclosed the amount of her settlement before a municipal official “leaked the document as if it were illegal.”

“The officials who receive the liquidation will receive what is owed to them by law. Nobody steals anything, ” said the then alderman. “You can object to the settlement, but it is the law and no one who receives your settlement is committing an illegal act,” he added.

According to the document, the former mayor, who had a monthly salary of $ 10,416, accrued 60 days of regular leave (from unused vacations), which equates to a settlement of $ 32,692.

Likewise, Cruz, who has held the position for the past eight years, has accrued 30 days of sick leave, for which he would have a balance of $ 14,302.

The document also states that he has 14 days more than his regular license, for which he would have to pay $ 7,369 according to the document.

The outgoing mayor resigned on December 31, days before new mayor Miguel Romero was sworn in.

Cruz did not run for re-election for mayor, but instead went to the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) primaries in an attempt to run for his governor. However, Isabela Mayor Carlos Delgado Altieri won his party’s primaries, though he later lost governorship in the general election.
