Carlos Vives mourns his father’s death

Luis Aurelio Vives, an ENT specialist and father of Vallenato star Carlos Vives, died at the age of 91 in Santa Marta, Colombia.

Dr. Vives died at 9 a.m. Monday morning after a long illness, and both Vives and the rest of his family were by his side, the singer’s publicist, Mayna Nevarez, told The Associated Press. He did not specify what illness he was suffering from, but said that Vives was very attached to his father.

From Colombia’s President Iván Duque to artists such as Juanes, Alejandro Sanz and Ricky Martin, dozens of personalities expressed their condolences on social networks.

“We express our solidarity with Carlos Vives and his entire family for the death of his father, Dr. Luis Aurelio Vives, a physician who was always at the service of the Samarians. We accompany them in prayer, ”the Colombian president tweeted.

My condolences to @carlosvives and all of his family during this difficult time. I send all my love, ”tweeted Juanes.

“May God have him in his glory,” Sanz wrote on Instagram in response to a Vives post, while Martin sent him “strength”.

In the emotional publication, Vives honored his father’s memory with a video collage of family photos and his song “The good times” in the background.

“When it was born it was so beautiful that they asked to borrow it from my grandmother Elena for the living cribs,” he wrote in his post. “So much so that his best friends kept calling him the ‘Nene Chu’ until the very last day. And today, Easter Monday, my father left. And I feel helpless again like the first time ”.

“I see him leaving his house never to return and my soul breaks and I realize that everything I’ve been has been for him: actor, Vallenatos singer, athlete, Union fan, philanthropist … Maybe so that he would feel that we were never divorced, ‘he added. “I know he will live forever in us, his children, in our family, in our friends, in our city. And that we will always remember him with the smile of that child who accompanied him all his life ”.

Doctor Vives is survived by his wife Mercedes Carrillo, four children – Carlos, Guillermo, Luis Francisco and Juan Enrique – and several grandchildren.

According to Nevarez, the family is organizing a mass on Thursday.
