Carlos Salcedo reveals that he preferred to go to Chivas instead of an offer from Europe

The defender recalled that it was thanks to a clause that by saving Chivas from relegation, the club could accept offers from European football.

Carlos Salcedo told an Instagram Live that before arriving at Chivas in 2015, he had the chance to emigrate from Belgium to the old continent as a Jupiter Pro League team. He showed interest in the Tigres youth team, but the “Titan” decided to lean on the offer of the Guadalajara team that offered him to leave for Europe, as long as the Flock was rescued from the relegation zone.

“From there I would go to Belgium and when I went to Belgium Nestor and ‘Chepo’ de la Torre spoke to me, they told me if I wanted to go to Chivas they were interested and they put in a clause saying that if the team that I saved, we were fighting for relegation at the time, they told me that if we automatically saved ourselves, I could go to Europe, I think it was something very attractive.

Chivas was the first team in which Salcedo played in Mexican football, as he was never able to make his professional debut with Tigres despite being from the grassroots college students.

“Why didn’t I make my debut in Tigres? Being about 17 years old, I went from there to MLS, to Real Salt Lake, I made my debut, I did well in the two seasons I was there.”

Salcedo wore the shirt of Chivas for a year and a half and then emigrated in the Apertura 2016 to Fiorentina in Serie A in Italy. The Chivas defender acknowledges that his trial with the Flock has helped him better prepare for the Italian league.

“It was a big step, because it helped me to build a good foundation and from there, when I went to Europe, you were more ready as a player.”

In addition to the opportunity to go to Europe, his stay with Chivas Salcedo gave the opportunity to win his first title in Mexican football by winning the Copa MX against León.
