Carjacking suspect leading Philadelphia officers on a wild chase identified

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – Philadelphia police have arrested a suspect who led officers on a wild high-speed chase through the city streets after two Friday night carjackings.

Happened at around 8:40 PM on Broad Street and Erie Avenue.

Police say a City View Pizza delivery driver was making a delivery to his wife and two children, ages 4 and 2, when the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Marcel Jenkins, got into the vehicle and left with the family still. within.

At around 10:30 PM, the family was found safe on the streets of 21st and Spring Garden, but police say the suspect hijacked another vehicle and chased officers across town.

Chopper 6 was above her head while the suspect tried to evade officers. At one point during the chase, the suspect led officers right through the parking lot of the Philadelphia Police Department on Race Street.

Jenkins was arrested just after 11 p.m. in Franklin Square Park.

He is facing a slew of charges, including kidnapping, carjacking, aggravated assault and other related crimes.

No injuries have been reported.
