Canceled ‘GoldenEye 007’ XBLA remaster material discovered

Footage from a full playthrough of the canceled Xbox Live Arcade remaster of the N64 game GoldenEye 007 has surfaced Youtube.

The video shows a full playthrough of the game, along with 30 minutes of multiplayer footage running at 4K / 60 FPS on the Xenia Emulator. The emulator was used to play the gameplay recordings with this resolution and frame rate.

The remaster was originally scheduled for release in 2007 and was subsequently canceled.

The opening of the game shows the characters from the N64 compared to their remastered versions, completely renewed upgrade and with new HD textures.

In the video description, Graslu00 posted a short FAQ, saying he had been told the remaster will be released in some form “in 2021”.

On Twitter Graslu00 also said the footage was unrelated to a recent bulletin board data breach 4chan, but was instead available through PartnerNet, a version of Xbox Live only available to developers of development kits.

While the XBLA version of the game was never released, there is a Wii remake with the title GoldenEye 007 was released in 2010. Developed by Eurocom and published by Activision, it was later called an HD port GoldenEye 007: Reloaded.

In other James Bond news, Io Interactive, the developers of the Hitman series revealed that it has begun work on a James Bond game, currently known as Project 007.

The developer has said the game will be an “all original” origin story for the character as they wanted to earn their 00 status.

Since the news came out, Io has revealed the details of the interview they had with Barbara Broccoli and Eon Productions, the producers behind the James Bond films. At the meeting, Broccoli had said that previous games were not “worthy enough” for the license and that there was “violence for the sake of violence”.
