Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday announced the suspension of all flights to Mexico and the Caribbean until April 30.
The new restrictions, in response to the most contagious variants of the coronavirus, include the Obligation for all travelers arriving in Canada to keep quarantine for 14 days in a hotel at your own expense.
All persons returning to Canada must undergo the PCR test before boarding their aircraft and again upon arrival at the airport.
“Travelers have to wait three days at their own expense for the results of their test in an approved hotel expected to exceed $ 2,000The prime minister said.
“Those who achieve negative results will be able to monitor quarantine at home under close surveillance,” he added.
Those who test positive should observe quarantine in government facilities to make sure they don’t carry more dangerous variants, he added.
Trudeau said airlines are Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing and Air Transa They will cancel all services to Mexico and the Caribbean from next Sunday until April 30th. “They will be contacting their customers traveling to those regions to organize their return flights,” said the prime minister.
Starting next week, all international passenger flights must land at one of the following four airports: Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and Montreal.
These measures tend to discourage vacations to prevent you from spending 14 hotel days on your return.
“It’s great. Too bad they waited so long. They should have made a decision a long time ago,” said Dr. Andrew Morris, professor of infectious diseases at the University of Toronto. “It’s definitely a step in the right direction,” he said.
