With the advent of DutySeason 2 on February 25 saw zombies in the spotlight. Black Ops Cold War have a great Zombies “Breakout” mode, and War zoneThe Verdansk map has a ship full of undead. War zone is slowly being infected by the undead, leading to a possible new mode or map.

When the Vodianoy cargo ship crashed on the coast of Verdansk two weeks ago, it was pretty clear that some of the zombies on board would get loose. Yesterday’s update is spreading the infection along the southeastern part of the map to the Verdansk prison site. The zombie infection did not spread as most would expect, while the ship remained a contaminated zoneInstead, the undead have just left the Vodianoy ship and are now camped at the prison.

Zombies can be activated in the prison in the same way as in the Vodianoy Shipwreck, by activating a machine to start a zombie kill. Killing a certain number of zombies gives you access to a special loot chest containing items such as higher-level weapons and a gas mask. But it is very likely that these zombie plagues are more than just scoring some stuff.

There’s a possibility that this is just teasing a new Zombies mode War zoneBut this spread of the undead is badly plagued by War zone developers Raven Software and the Duty blog, making it easy to assume that something big is about to hit Verdansk.

Part of yesterday blog states that “immediate exfil and subsequent fumigation is recommended.” There have also been rumors of a “pest” mode Comes to War zone, for which you have to survive a zombie breakout and exfiltration of the map, otherwise an atomic bomb would end the match.

Some players speculate that this will lead to an uncontrollable outbreak that will end with the destruction of the entire Verdansk map to contain its spread, eventually introducing an era of the Cold War. War zone Map. This theory fits in nicely War zoneThe constant reminder that Verdansk is on a pair of warheads. The nuclear bunkers open their doors and plague those warheads, so maybe zombies are indeed the imminent threat causing all those nuclear weapons to detonate.

The Verdansk map never really lived up to its full potential, and landscape updates were scarce, but I still enjoyed it. I have a lot of memories of shenanigans with friends, like War zone caused a great distraction during unusual times last year. That said, I’m all for smashing it and starting over. A zombie outbreak could be a fun way to wrap up Verdansk, but I doubt this event will be the satisfying ending many are hoping for.

My biggest concern is that all this build-up for a Zombies event will slog by at a sloppy, corpse-like pace. Last year’s teasers that preceded it War zone‘s “Know Your History” live event dragged on for weeks. I was a huge fan of getting the community involved in teasers and in-game Easter egg puzzles, but dragging something out long enough loses some of its excitement.

It may be weekly War zone updates will infect a different location each time, and this will just be more of the same until we finally reach the Season 2 conclusion. The season has only just started and will likely end in late April, so we still have a long way to go until we reach the finale that the developers are making.

I’d love to see Raven Software really speed up this infection process and give us a full Zombies infested map with some interesting modes and twists. Maybe add some of the big “elite” zombies that can be found in Cold War‘s Zombies mode, or add some mini Easter eggs to solve. We will see what happens next.
