California expects a nearly 90% drop in the number of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines next week

BERKELEY, California (KGO) – Just as we need more vaccines, California is about to see a big drop in Johnson & Johnson doses – not just a few hundred or even a few thousand doses, we’ve got it about a decrease of almost 90%.

We will also see an 85% drop in Johnson & Johnson vaccine doses nationwide. Instead of the nearly 5 million doses the government sent out this week, the government will send just 785,500 next week.

Johnson & Johnson said last week that one of their batches was not up to their standards. The New York Times reported that workers had mixed up ingredients, ruining 15 million doses.

Next week, if you’re trying to make appointments when you’re eligible and you’re having trouble, this could explain why. Demand will increase as supply decreases.

The governor did say it could take up to a month to get the vaccine to all eligible Californians.
