The San Francisco 49ers have enough needs that almost any iteration of a mock version will make some sense to the free service. Regardless of how free agency shakes it up, their two selections in a mock-up of two rounds from our friends at the Draft Wire could make a lot of sense.
With the 12th pick, the 49ers take Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley. He’s an acclaimed CB prospect who could potentially be off the board by the time San Francisco picks Draft Day. However, they are lucky in this mock and he falls for them.
The 6-2, 207-pound defensive back didn’t play in 2020, but managed to post six interceptions and 19 pass break-ups in just two college seasons. He plans to slide in on Day 1 as a starting outside cornerback. Given the number of holes the 49ers have to fill, it’s very easy to see that they are in a spot where they can comfortably take a cornerback early in the first round.
Their second roster at No. 43 overall fulfills a need on the inside of the attack line with Alabama guard Deonte Brown. Brown played both waiting positions in college, but ended his career as a star-right security guard for the Crimson Tide.
That spot on the offensive line was no doubt a weakness for San Francisco last season, and a scenario where they are aiming for it in the second round means they probably had a successful free agency that left them in a place where they could cement that position. . with one of their top picks.
