Bukele appoints the son of the Minister of Education as Minister of the Interior

Before he was appointed Minister, he was an adviser to the Minister of Public Works. In 2020, Guatemalan authorities asked for his extradition, but the Supreme Court declared such a request inadmissible.

On Wednesday afternoon, the president of the republic, Nayib Bukele, announced that he had appointed Juan Carlos Bidegaín Hananía, who was serving as an adviser and deputy director in the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), as the new interior minister.

Bidegaín acted as such despite his direct relationship with the Minister of Education, Carla Evelyn Hananía de Varela, of whom he is the son, as El Diario de Hoy has verified with official documents.

As a dispatch advisor to the VMT, he had a salary of $ 3,621.

The official also has open legal proceedings in Guatemala for the mistreatment of minors.

For this crime, the Guatemalan authorities asked their Salvadoran counterparts for extradition, but in May 2020, the Supreme Court of El Salvador ruled such a request inadmissible.

“The new head of @GobernacionSV is: Juan Carlos Bidegaín. Since the beginning of our government, he has worked as a director at @VMTElSalvador, ”Bukele wrote on his Twitter account.

In addition, he assured that, since September, he has been coordinating the logistics of the Sanitary Emergency Program (PES) and the Interdisciplinary Epidemiological Containment Team of the Ministry of Health.

The appointment is in line with announcement number five of ten that Bukele hopes to make in the coming hours and will take place weeks before Mario Durán, who chaired the state portfolio, takes up his position as mayor of San Salvador.

This is another of the changes made to the government cabinet, the most recent being on March 26, when Gustavo Villatoro was appointed Minister of Justice and Security, leaving his position in the Superintendency of the Financial System.
