Bruce Springsteen was arrested last fall for drunk driving and related charges on the Jersey Shore, authorities said.
On November 14, 2020, Springsteen was quoted as saying DWI, reckless driving and drinking alcohol in an enclosed area near Sandy Hook, in the Gateway National Recreation Area in the northeastern tip of Monmouth County.
“Springsteen cooperated throughout the process,” Gateway spokesman Brenda Ling said in a statement Wednesday.
TMZ was the first to report the arrest. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, a resident of Colts Neck, is due to appear in court in the coming weeks, the website said.
The news comes after Springsteen, 71, made headlines last weekend when he appeared in a two-minute Super Bowl commercial for Jeep, the first such product offering in his career.
Unlike many rock stars, Springsteen has no history of public intoxication. In fact, as a young man, he avoided alcohol and didn’t drink his first drink until he was 22. As he wrote in his 2016 autobiography ‘Born to Run’, ‘My experience with my father had been enough,’ referring to his father, Douglas Springsteen, and his struggles with alcoholism.
The haunting, all-encompassing presence he became when he drank convinced me never to go there. He lost who he was. ”
