Bruce Springsteen DWI arrest documents show singer refused breath test for first time, ‘smelled strongly of alcohol’

More details are coming to light about Bruce Springsteen’s DWI arrest in November.

The Born in the USA singer was arrested for DWI, reckless driving and drinking alcohol in an enclosed area months ago in the Gateway National Recreation Area, a public affairs officer confirmed to Fox News.

Now, statements of probable cause obtained by Fox News show that “The Boss” reportedly refused to take a preliminary breath test when first approached by a park ranger on site.

“Springsteen declined to take a preliminary breath test (PBT) despite signs of intoxication, namely after gaze testing and walking and turning tests,” a park ranger named RL Hayes claims in the document.

In addition, the ranger claimed to have observed the musician “consumed a shot of Patron tequila” before getting on his motorcycle to “start the engine.”

Hayes claims he informed Springsteen, a New Jersey resident, that drinking on the park grounds is “prohibited.”

“The Patron bottle from which the shot was poured was completely empty (750 ml),” the ranger also writes. “I asked Springsteen if he was leaving and he confirmed that he would drive out of the park.”

Hayes claimed that Springsteen smelled of alcohol. “[He] smelled strongly of alcohol coming from his person and had glassy eyes, ”the report said.

The ranger continues that Springsteen “claimed he had two shots of tequila in the past 20 minutes.”

The ranger also said he had “observed four of the six cues on the nystagmus test with horizontal gaze.” The musician “swayed visibly as I watched his eyes,” said Hayes. “I observed five of the eight cues during the step and turn test. Springsteen took a total of 45 steps during the walk and turn instead of the 19 instructed. [He] refused to provide a sample for the preliminary breath test. “

Springsteen is expected to appear in a virtual court hearing at the end of this month. The documents show that the exact location of his arrest took place at a “lighthouse” in the park.

The word of Springsteen’s surprise arrest led to the removal of his recent Super Bowl LV ad from YouTube.

The Jeep ad, entitled “ The Middle, ” featured a poem read by Trump critic Springsteen calling on Americans to come together and find common ground.

Jeep owner Stellantis did not respond to a request for comment on Springsteen’s arrest from Fox News, but a spokesman told Pitchfork:
