Britney Spears fans are in an uproar about her conservatorship these days, but her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s lawyer feels differently.
While the Spears Conservatory had been a point of controversy for some time, interest in the issue was renewed after the documentary “Framing Britney Spears” aired on FX and Hulu earlier this month.
Fans are joining the # FreeBritney movement, demanding that the star be released from her legal custody, claiming that her father Jamie, who serves as co-curator, has been oppressive and even skimmed off her fortune – he denies such rumors.
On Thursday, the court ruled that Jamie would remain co-curator of his daughter’s estate alongside Bessemer Trust Co., a decision Federline’s family attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, appears to believe was strong.

“I think there are a lot of different layers of protection for Britney Spears as a conservatee, and I don’t think anyone needs to worry about it being misused in some way for those in control with a conflict of interest…” Kaplan told Fox Television Stations. “I don’t think that’s valid – it’s a concern, but I don’t think it’s a fact.”

Spears, now 39, was placed under the conservatory more than a decade ago after her public demise, and recently said she chose to quit her career until she was released from custody.
“ Before the conservatorship was placed over Ms. Spears her finances were in a horrible state of disarray, there were multiple breaches of contract lawsuits and the like, and now based on what I’ve seen in the press, estate is north of $ 50, $ 60 million, so from that standpoint it seems to me that the conservatorship has benefited her financially in that regard, ”argued Kaplan. “The tradeoff insofar as it affects her personal freedom or creativity, I can’t talk about that.”
Business Insider reported in December 2020 that the pop star’s net worth was about $ 59 million. She hasn’t performed live since 2018 and checked into a mental health facility the following year.

The lawyer noted that Federline “has no opinion” on his ex-wife’s legal situation “and has no desire to get involved on that side.”
“All he has thought about is whether the existence of the conservatories increases the boys’ ability to be in a safe and structured environment when they are with their mothers, and we have no reason to believe that That’s not a favorable factor in that decision, ” added Kaplan.
Federline and Spears share two sons: Sean Preston, 15, and Jayden James, 14. They share 70% of their time with their dad and the rest with Spears, although they “voluntarily” adjusted that number, giving Federline more time with the boys.

According to Kaplan, the kids are “doing really well, and Kevin is enjoying watching them grow up to be young men.”

In addition, he said that if the conservatorship were to be ended, he “would probably have a more careful eye to make sure everything there is stable and structured when the boys visit their mother.”
Spears is reportedly afraid of her own father and previously asked him not to return as her sole curator after a brief hiatus during which he received medical treatment.

“I know there has been apparent turmoil with Britney and her father, and his role has changed a bit, but that’s an internal issue between them,” said Federline’s attorney.
