They mentioned Spears and her father in their letter.
“Perhaps the most striking example is the case of multi-platinum performing artist Britney Spears. Since 2008, Ms. Spears has been under a court-imposed conservatory,” they wrote. “The facts and circumstances that led to this settlement remain open to debate, but are related to questionable motives and legal tactics from her father and now curator, Jamie Spears.”
Jamie Spears has fulfilled his duties as one of Britney’s curators diligently and professionally, and his love for his daughter and dedication to protecting her is evident in court. Any time Britney wants to end her conservatorship, she can ask her lawyer to petition to end it, she has always had this right but never exercised it in 13 years, ”wrote Thoreen.
Jamie Spears was first appointed by a court as the co-curator of the estate and the person of his daughter in 2008, after a series of personal troubles for the singer that took place in public. Britney Spears’ attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, filed a petition last August to dismiss her father as curator. At a hearing on the matter in November, Ingham said Britney was ‘scared’ of her father. The judge ruled to retain Jamie Spears as curator and appointed Bessemer Trust to act as co-curator of her $ 60 million estate.
[Jamie] I would love to see Britney not need a conservatorship, “Thoreen told CNN at the time.” Whether or not the conservatory will end really depends on Britney. If she wants to end her conservatorship, she can petition to end it. Jamie is not suggesting that he is the perfect dad or that he would receive a ‘Father of the Year’ award. Like any parent, he doesn’t always see face to face with what Britney might want. But Jamie believes every decision he’s made has been in her best interest. “
Britney has not commented publicly on the ongoing battle for the conservatory. The next hearing at the conservatory is scheduled for March 17th.
