The long and complicated saga of Britney Spears’ Conservatory – the legal settlement that has ruled and governed the life and finances of the musical superstar for over a decade – has reached a new, not entirely surprising step this week. Variety reports that a lawyer from Spears has moved to finally request that her father, Jamie Spears, be permanently removed from his role as her personally curator, a position he has been on hold for most of the past 13 years (with the exception of at least one leave for medical absence).

This position is what made the elder Spears incredible control over his daughter’s life, including medical decisions, the appointment of bodyguards, and the ability to decide which visitors to receiveHis daughter’s lawyer has done that now requested that that sole authority be transferred now to Jodi Montgomery, who was appointed temporary care manager for Britney after Jamie Spears was incapacitated for work in 2019 due to the aforementioned medical absence.

It’s worth noting that Spears is not currently in danger of being expelled from his co-conservatorship of his daughter’s estate (that is, her huge fortune and business concerns) which he manages together with Bessemer Trust Company(Although statements from Spears legal team suggest earlier this year that she’s not happy with this arrangement either.)

The issues surrounding Spears Conservatory have been going on for years, but have recently been brought to light by the Framing Britney Spears docuseries. The next hearing to determine the fate of the musician’s legal status will take place in April.
