A British man named “Papa Smurf” who visited schools and daycare centers to show off his huge collection of blue dolls has been exposed as a child molester – and was sentenced to 16 years in prison for his nefarious crime, according to a report.
Robin White, 65, of Derbyshire was known for driving around in a striking van and claimed to own a collection of over 10,000 Smurfs in 2017 when he embarked on a world record attempt, Derbyshire Live reported.
But beneath the innocent facade was a perverted monster who hunted and sexually assaulted a young girl, officials said.
The sicko even used a sex toy for the girl, which he raped in a shed, the news report said.
Even when the victim, now an adult, bravely reported his gruesome attack, White denied it all while forcing her to relive her nightmare during his trial.
Prosecutor Julia King described how White’s actions caused “serious psychological damage” to the woman.
She kept things to herself because she didn’t know who to trust. She says she cannot trust anyone completely and this has had an impact on every aspect of her life, ”said King.
“She says she doesn’t want to go to certain places in case she runs into him,” she continued. “But she also says that what makes her happy is that she can take care of herself and that she feels she has now closed a chapter in her life.”
A jury found White guilty of multiple counts of rape, sexual assault and inducing or inducing a child to engage in sexual activity, Derbyshire Live reported.
Judge Nirmal Shant of the Derby Crown Court said: “As she said in her personal victim statement, everything you did destroyed her for the rest of her life.
“It has affected her personal relationships and has affected her personal and private personality,” she added. “To say that you destroyed her life in every way is an understatement.”
White’s attorney Raglan Ashton said his client’s wife assisted him despite the heinous crimes.
“Mr. White knows that these are very serious matters and that he is facing a significant period of detention because of the jury’s verdict,” said Ashton.
“He’s 65 and this is his first foray into custody and it is always difficult for a first-time person. It will be extremely difficult for someone his age, ”he wailed.
“He has no previous offenses of this nature and he is not one of those individuals who could be categorized as a predatory pedophile,” added the lawyer.
A spokesman for the UK’s National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children said: “This case is another poignant example of the effect child sexual abuse can have on victims. It can ruin childhood and the effects can last well into adulthood.
“The courage of the woman who reported White’s unforgivable actions cannot be underestimated, and this sentence shows that no matter when abuse took place, pedophiles like White can still get the justice they deserve and we would recommend anyone who has experienced abuse, encourage them to speak up and seek support, ”the representative added.
