Movie night
Wonder Woman 1984 (HBO Max, Friday, 3:01 AM): “In a Wonder Woman movie, you want the story to be about Wonder Woman. And while the film starts off promising in this regard – as Barbara and Diana form a tentative friendship – the story is so exaggerated that Gadot’s character at the end and her achievements are shown by those around her. Combined with the script’s tendency to go ‘Look over there!’ when a plot point gets in the way of credulity, the film is also fleshy in consistency. ” Read Katie Rife’s review of the long-awaited Wonder Woman 1984 here.

The scenes that are not set in the cuddly underworld are set in a vibrant New York, populated by characters with expressive features and slightly exaggerated physique. Here Joe Gardener, a jazz pianist voiced by Jamie Foxx, steps into a manhole and ends his life just as he thought it really started. ” Read the rest of AA Dowd’s review from Soul here.
