Braves promotes Sean Kazmar Jr., who hasn’t played in MLB since 2008

CHICAGO – The Atlanta Braves put 36-year-old infielder Sean Kazmar Jr. Saturday on the active roster, a move that put a big smile on manager Brian Snitker’s face.

And for good reason. Kazmar hasn’t played in the major leagues for over a decade.

“That was probably one of the best moments I’ve had as a coach at all levels, to be honest,” Snitker said of Kazmar of his return. “It’s amazing. You go from ’08 to 2021, in between you have to joke, to have the persistence, the dedication and the drive.”

Kazmar last played in the majors on September 23, 2008, with the San Diego Padres, and played in 19 games for his lone Major League-action that season. He has since played Triple-A for the Padres, Seattle Mariners, New York Mets and Braves.

The Braves also put left-handed Jesse Biddle on the active list, called right-handed Bryse Wilson, put left-handed Sean Newcomb on the disabled list, and put outfielder Ender Inciarte on the 10-day disabled list.
