Bravely Default II Gambler | how to unlock the gambler class

Encourage absenteeism II is the latest in a series of new RPGs that pay homage to some of the 90s classics of the genre – and like its predecessors, BD2 pays the greatest tribute through its intricate job system – including some classes that are fully optional to unlock, such as the Gambler

There are twenty-four jobs in total, and if you want to learn more about those, go ahead and head over to our full Bravely Default 2 jobs guide, with skill lists and all kinds. We also have some suggestions for the best jobs, subjobs and job combinations in BD2, should you need them. But on this page? We will quickly explain how to unlock the job class gambler, which is completely optional and easy to miss.

How to Unlock the Gambler in Bravely Default 2

We talk a little bit about the gambler in our job guide, but since some of you just want to know, with no spoilers, we thought we’d break it down into a separate guide page. Here’s the problem: you can unlock the Gambler class a little bit into Chapter 1Once you reach the point where you unlock the Beastmaster asterisk, you can pass the side quest that will get your Gambler tidy.

You must be the city of Savalon and you must go to the Savalon Gaming Hall which can be found on the north side of the city. Because how else would you unlock a gambler than by participating in a little … gambling? It’s all pretty clear, actually.

In the game room, talk to Shirley to introduce you to Bind and Divide, Bravely Default II’s optional card game mini-game. This game isn’t a Triple Triad, but it’s good enough – if it’s, um, very confusing. We’re still not quite sure how to play, despite BD2’s NPC’s best efforts to teach us, but we were able to grapple through the necessary card games to unlock Gambler.

The ‘Take a Gamble’ quest that starts after speaking to Shirley basically requires you to defeat a number of characters scattered around the Savalon Gaming Hall. Work your way through the hall and defeat all the NPCs you can, starting with Orpheus chilling in the northeast corner of the hall. After Orpheus, work around the other players, except Shirley. When all are defeated, STOP!

Now that you’ve defeated everyone else, Shirley, who taught you the game, will play you again – no grips. Save your game before playing Bind & Divide against Shirley. If you lose this match of this rather intrusive card game, you will be forced to reload your game; it actually results in a game over. So save to cards right before you include her.

With Shirley defeated, you now have to fight her in a real boss fight to unlock the Gambler AsteriskShe’s not that hard, but again it’s good that you saved because if you fail in this fight, the game is over.

However, if you found the most recent story fights manageable at this stage, you shouldn’t find Shirley a real problem. We found that losing the deck to her is more dangerous because of course that has a random element! But again – so is the Gambler Class, which holds on to the tradition of other versions of this class elsewhere.

The Gambler Class is potentially powerful, but you have to understand that the Gaming skill set is highly randomized, as you would expect given the theme of the course. However, bettors have solid magical stats which means this can be a good job to pair with mages. They are also great for when you need money urgently and need to make some money.
