Boulder shooting suspect faces 43 new charges in King Soopers attack

The 21-year-old Arvada man who was charged with killing 10 people in a supermarket in Boulder last month is now facing more than 40 additional charges related to the attack.

Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, who was already charged with 10 charges of first degree murder and one count of attempted murder, is now facing 54 charges, according to a motion filed Wednesday in Boulder County district court.

The prosecution asked Alissa to be charged with 32 new attempts at first-degree murder. The victims of attempted murder identified in the motion are 11 police officers – including two who entered the store with murdered cop Eric Talley and nine others who participated in the second entry – and seven civilians.

Most, but not all, identified victims are assigned multiple murder attempts.

Alissa will also be charged with one time assault and 10 times of carrying banned large-capacity warehouses.

Authorities believe Alissa brought two guns to the King Soopers on Table Mesa Drive in Boulder on March 22 and opened fire just after 2:30 p.m., killing customers, store employees and a responding police officer. Those in the store hid or fled, and many escaped through the back.

People hiding in the store said the gunman’s violence interrupted long periods of silence, when they could only hear the store’s automatic announcements and music, or the occasional cell phone.
