Boston Celtics signs former number 2 overall pick Jabari Parker

The Boston Celtics have signed former No. 2 overall pick Jabari Parker, the team announced on Friday.

At just 26 years old, Parker has played just 41 games in total in the past two seasons – including just three this season for the Sacramento Kings, before being shut down last month. He has also played for four teams – the Kings, Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls – in the past three seasons.

The Duke University product has averaged 14.8 points and shot nearly 50% of the field for his career, but struggles to live up to its potential after sustaining a few ACL tears in his right knee early in his career including only a few. months into its rookie season in 2014.

When Parker is able to officially clear the NBA’s health and safety protocols and join the team, he will likely compete for minutes with Semi Ojeleye and Grant Williams behind Jayson Tatum to back up the team.

The Celtics waived center Moritz Wagner, who they acquired in a deadline day trade last month, along with fellow center Luke Kornet to free up a roster spot to sign Parker.
