Boston Celtics’ Marcus Smart hopes to return before the start of the second half of the season, sources say

Marcus Smart, the Boston Celtics guard, will likely continue to rehabilitate his left calf during the March 5-10 All-Star hiatus, with hopes of returning to the lineup before the start of the second half of season, sources told ESPN.

Smart, who fully recovered from the injury that occurred on Jan. 30, resumed his journey with the Celtics in New Orleans on Sunday and participated in light activities on the field, coach Brad Stevens said before his team’s game against the Pelicans.

The Celtics are 5-6 with no Smart in the lineup since his injury, and he would likely miss seven more games until the end of the first half of the season on March 4.

Smart had his best NBA season, including career highs in points (13.1), assists (6.1) and steals (1.8). He also leads the Celtics in defensive categories, including deflections and loose ball recovery.
