Border Patrol agents seize nearly 200 pounds of Bologna found in the car on the border with New Mexico

Nearly £ 200 of illegal Mexican Bologna was seized by US customs and border protection agents at the New Mexico-Mexico border, the agency confirmed in a release.

Agents from the Office of Field Operations Agriculture Specialists found 22 rolls of Bologna (194 pounds) in the truck of a Nissan Rogue in the arrival port of Columbus, NM and fined the driver, a 49-year-old from Albuquerque, $ 500. Part of the bologna was also found in the driver’s luggage.

Mexican bologna has been banned in the US because it could introduce foreign animal diseases to the US pork industry, CBP said in the publication. The flesh had been destroyed.

“It is important for travelers to understand that they must declare all items they are transporting from abroad to avoid fines and penalties,” Tony Hall, CBP director Columbus Port said in the statement. “A correctly declared prohibited item can be left in port without consequence.”
