Boeing tests Pilotless Combat Jet in Australia’s outback

Boeing Co. and the Australian Air Force conducted one test flight of an unmanned combat aircraft designed to cooperate with manned aircraft in combat.

The Loyal Wingman aircraft was flown at different speeds and heights by a pilot at one ground control station in the South Australian Outback, Boeing said in a pronunciation.

More flights are planned later this year. The autonomous aircraft can be equipped with different payloads and sensors depending on the mission, according to Boeing.

“Boeing and Australia are pioneers in fully integrated combat operations by manned and unmanned aerial vehicles,” Leanne Caret, president of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, said in the statement.
