Bodycam reveals that Minneapolis police shoots a motorist

Dramatic police bodycam footage shows the moment when Minneapolis police shot a man dead during a traffic stop on Wednesday.

The footage, released Thursday by police in the city of Minnesota, shows an officer aiming a gun at a white sedan starting to pull away from him at a gas station.

Another officer hears shouting, “Stop your car!”

The officer with the bodycam then calls out to the driver: ‘Hands up. Hands up.”

The white car drives off in the snow, but is cornered by three police vehicles.

“Hands up, police,” the officer with the camera shouted. “Hands up…. Fk.”

Several shots then sound out.

The 27-second video was posted to the city’s website at around 5:00 PM on Thursday.

The driver, identified by family as Dolal Idd, 23, on Thursday, appears to have an object in his hand at one point in the video, but it is unclear whether the first shot came from his vehicle.

Minneapolis police did not say whether a gun was recovered from the vehicle, but sources told WCCO-TV it was.

Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo said during a briefing that the department would release the footage in an effort to be transparent.

Police said police tried to detain Idd but did not provide details as to why they tried to question him.

A woman in the passenger seat during the shooting was not injured.

The shooting was the first police-implicated death in town since the death of George Floyd in custody on May 25, whose death helped spark global Black Lives Matter protests.
