COLUMBUS, Ohio – It only took five games and one last meeting with coach John Tortorella before Pierre-Luc Dubois fulfilled his wish.
The Blue Jackets are about to trade their disaffected No. 1 center, sources told The Athletic late on Friday, a deal likely to close this weekend, perhaps as early as Saturday.
The Winnipeg Jets are supposed to be the front runners for Dubois, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger, but the Anaheim Ducks, Montreal Canadiens, and perhaps one other club are also in the mix.
The Blue Jackets informed Dubois that he would be a healthy scratch for Saturday’s 2:00 p.m. game against Tampa Bay at Nationwide Arena, provided he is still on the roster when dropping the puck. This move isn’t punitive after his long benching Thursday, but rather about protecting assets.
Dubois has almost certainly played his last game for the Blue Jackets.
