Following today’s report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo outlining significant changes for the next generation of MacBook Pro models coming in the third quarter of this year, BloombergMark Gurman has weighed in with his own report confirming some details but seemingly different from others.
First, Gurman shares more details on the return of MagSafe charging to the MacBook Pro, indicating that the design will indeed be similar to the previous version of MagSafe on Mac notebooks. Gurman also says the shift back to dedicated “MagSafe” charging allows for faster charging speeds.
Gurman says unsurprisingly, the new MacBook Pro models will continue to support USB-C two USB-C ports next to the MagSafe port, and probably two more USB-C ports on the other side of the machine.
BloombergThe report also provides a tidbit on the displays on the upcoming MacBook Pro models, indicating that they will use “brighter, higher contrast panels.” The machines will of course also be equipped with Apple silicon chips that offer more processor cores and improved graphics compared to the M1 found in the first batch of Apple silicon Macs.
As for the design of the new MacBook Pro models, Kuo had indicated that they would get a new iPhone 12-style design with flat bezels, but Gurman seems to be downplaying the significance of any changes, indicating that they are ” look the same “as current models but with” minor design changes. “
Gurman also says Apple has “tested” versions of the MacBook Pro without the Touch Bar, while Kuo seems more clear that the controversial feature will be removed in the final design.
Finally, Gurman notes that Apple is also planning a redesign for the MacBook Air, but that this will only come “long after” the debut of the updated MacBook Pro models.
