1. The live band opens with “Kill This Love”
One of the best things about BLACKPINK’s 2019 In Your Area tour was hearing the group reinterpret their smashes with a full, live band backing them. Even with COVID-19 restrictions and moving to an online concert, the group was able to bring in their backing band members to not only serve up their Hot 100 hit “Kill This Love” with all the style, vocals, raps and choreography fans expect, but in addition to a refreshing musical reworking thanks to their drummer, bassist, guitarist and keyboardist.
2. Jisoo Follow the trail of Tove Lo on an emotional journey
Fans were able to expect some special solo stages from the individual members, and Jisoo was fully delivered by not only offering an emotional cover of Tove Lo’s “Habits (Stay High),” but reworking the song with new Korean lyrics – just like she did on the 2019 tour with Zedd’s “Clarity.” It was not only a treat for her international fans, but to watch the starlet take her singing to a well-known hit while performing it in a way that is most comfortable for her.
3. Lisa does Doja Cat with disco, dancing and rapping
The youngest member of the group also brought a new take on a big pop hit. The Thai singer took Doja Cat’s No. 1 Hot 100 hit “Say So” and added her own set of new rap lyrics and released a full dance break. While Lisa did a dance cover in 2019 (with her “Swalla” show going viral seemingly every night), this cover showed Lisa her singing, rap style and dancing skills.
4. “Sour Candy” comes to the stage
BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga’s Chromatics collaboration “Sour Candy” is undeniably a fan favorite for both fandoms, and the girls took it to the stage for The Show. While Gaga wasn’t with them, the deep-house / dance-pop tune flourished with elements of voguing incorporated into the choreography on stage.
5. The albumAcoustic B-Side section
The show allowed BLACKPINK to finally bring the 2020 multiple cuts The album who had not yet received the live-stage treatment. A striking moment came when the quartet slowed down for a moment to perform their most acoustically inclined B-sides “Love to Hate Me” and “You’re Never Know”, two of the most emotional songs in their repertoire. The two songs not only gave fans the chance to see the members in a new light (no backing dancers or fancy stage lighting, just the ladies singing in seats), but also gave the group a chance to focus on their strong vocals. (Jisoo was especially surprised in this section).
Jennie kills a new “solo”
As the first member to release her own music in 2018, Jennie’s single “Solo” was a staple of the group’s set list. But the singer-rapper also served fans a surprise when she performed her empowering anthem with a refreshed concept and a slew of new rap lyrics. Not only did she take some time to bend into the new section (“W, no L’s / covered W. and She“) and give a shoutout to her favorite brands like Chanel and even The Blinks, the name for the fans of BLACKPINK.
7. Rosé gives a preview of her solo music
Fans have been eagerly awaiting vocal powerhouse Rosé to bring her anticipated solo music for years to come, and The Show has finally given a taste of what to expect. Fans not only saw a music video clip of the new song ‘Gone’ – which appears to be a track that’s entirely in English and is reported to be a B-side on her upcoming record – but also got a live fragment. Rosé fully embodied the emotional, acoustically inclined cut and revealed fragile lyrics, including “I feel used / how I should live without you? I refuse.”
8. Bring out all elements for “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du”
While it is unfortunate that the global pandemic prevents BLACKPINK from presenting their songs with in-person concerts, the performance of “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” put something that probably wouldn’t be possible. Not only did the quartet decorate their stage with fire and fireworks, but the set itself was also transformed into a shallow pool where the girls and their group of backup dancers could stomp through the song. The fire and water elements shine, but they brought out some of their most intricate choreographies of the entire show – perhaps best seen when Rosé sang a full horizontal verse as three muscular dancers maneuvered and moved her as she gently moved the star. above their heads.
9. The playful performance of “as if it were your last”
The 2017 single “As If It’s Your Last” is a Blinks favorite, but The Show may have also revealed that it is also one of BLACKPINK’s. Viewers saw the girls having a lot of fun, best illustrated when Jennie and Lisa bumped into each other during the chorus, and the first one cracked a face to make the youngest member laugh halfway through the song. Lisa would later convey the follies to Jisoo with a playful slap during another chorus section, which left the oldest of the group with a big smile as well.
10. The compliment session
The show offered the women a few moments to chat with their fans for a while, but the best chat session may have come before the finale when the girls showed their love for each other. Jennie started talking about Rosé’s solo performance of “Gone” and said she was also surprised by the new video, while Lisa gave her props about her preparation process and said, “It was really cool, you barely slept.”
Rosé turned things around to Jennie and noted that her “Solo” stage was “cray-zy “as the girls hypted” Rapper Jennie “and her new verses. The group also showed love for their tuned-in fans, as well as the instrumentalists, dancers and staffers who made The Show possible.
Before closing with the song “Forever Young” with fan-made signs and messages, there was a palpable sense of gratitude and admiration from BLACKPINK, adding a special, human element after these superstars were driven through the performance.
