Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players have encountered major issues with crashes on Xbox Series X, but it looks like a fix has been uncovered by a poster on Reddit. According to user EmadBella, the crashes can be predicted by framerate issues starting at the start of a match, and by failure of the controller rumble. According to the poster, players can prevent the game from crashing by pressing the controller’s Home button until the system shutdown prompt appears. Players will then have to press the “B” button to return to the game and notice that the framerate issues and rumble are back to normal. As a result, no crash will be experienced!

Fix for Cold War crash on Xbox Series X from r / XboxSeriesX
In the comments to the post, several users agreed that this tactic seemed to fix the problem and prevent the game from crashing. The whole “fix” should take a few seconds at the most, and should be worth a try for anyone who starts having problems when a match starts. Obviously, this is still not an ideal solution, and players shouldn’t have to make these efforts, but until Activision and Treyarch come up with a permanent fix, it could be a big help! To his credit, Treyarch is well aware of the issues surrounding the game on the Xbox Series X hardware, and looks like he’s working hard on a fix.
The Xbox Series X crashes have been well publicized since the game was released in November. A Reddit poster claimed the problem was so bad it broke their Xbox Series X console. If this fix works as well as posters claim it works, it could be a big sigh of relief for players worried about having to return their systems to Microsoft for repair!
