The Bachelor star Colton Underwood came out yesterday in an interview with Robin Roberts Good morning America
Afterward, many shared on social media another 2019 exchange between Billy Eichner and Underwood in which Eichner joked that the bachelor and former professional soccer player was gay. In the clip, Underwood is lost for words at the suggestion.
Many praised Eichner for being observant.
Eichner himself posted a series of tweets in which he responded to Underwood’s arrival. The first, who shared his exchange with Underwood again, congratulated him.
“I am happy for @colton. If you are gay, be gay! I’ve been gay forever and I love it! “

Eichner posted the same video clip and message on his Instagram. This prompted a response from Underwood.
“Love you. I love this (now) and now I love being gay,” said the newly released reality TV star.

Shortly after the GMA interview aired, it was revealed that Underwood, 29, is already filming a Netflix documentary series about being gay. According to Variety, Gus Kenworthy will also be on the show, acting as sort of a mentor or guide to Underwood.
Eichner then joked on Twitter that Underwood might receive a reward for coming out: “This is how Hollywood works: Colton gets a GLAAD Award before me.”

Eichner later posted a few more serious tweets about the issue of coming out. In the first case, he asked people to remember that not everyone finds it easy to reveal their true selves.
“Pop culture sometimes makes it seem like every 14-year-old gay boy is flying out of the closet without any worries. Some are. And that is INCREDIBLE. But many are not. So let’s remember that, ”said Eichner.
AND ALSO let’s honor and praise those in entertainment who came out years – DECADES – before it was embraced and used for professional benefit. I don’t mean me – I mean many others, especially the ones before me – that took a lot of guts. Let’s give them some shine too. “

In response, some took the opportunity to name notable LGBTQ people who lived openly gay lives decades ago, including Ian McKellen, Sylvester, Ellen DeGeneres, and Paul Lynde, among others.

While many have praised Underwood for coming out, others have criticized him for appearing in not one but three different locations Bachelor Nation seasons (2018’s The bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise, and 2019’s The Bachelor
Some were also quick to point out that Underwood’s ex-girlfriend, Cassie Randolph, had issued a restraining order against him last September, following their May split. Under several charges, she said Underwood placed a tracker device in her car and sent intimidating anonymous text messages.
Randolph revoked the restraining order in November. Underwood made a statement at the time saying, “Today, Cassie has asked the court to dismiss the temporary restraining order against me. We were able to negotiate a private agreement to address one of Cassie’s concerns. I don’t believe Cassie did anything wrong in filing the restraining order and I also believe she acted in good faith. “
In yesterday’s interview at GMA, Underwood discussed his relationship with Randolph again, saying, “I’d like to say sorry for how things are turning out. I messed up. I’ve made a lot of bad choices. “
He also said he loved her: “It made it even more confusing for me. I loved everything about her … I wish I had been brave enough to fix myself before destroying someone else. “
Randolph has yet to publicly respond to Underwood’s announcement.
