Biden weighs in Brady vs. Mahomes for Super Bowl LV

President Biden said that when he was younger, he dreamed not of running for president, but of playing for the NFL. CBS Evening News anchor and editor Norah O’Donnell spoke to Mr. Biden in the first network news interview he has given since his inauguration.

“I wanted to dream,” said Mr. Biden. It was not to become president. I thought I could be a flanker in the NFL. ‘

Mr. Biden played receiver in high school in Delaware. His coach, E. John Walsh, told The New York Times in 2008 that Mr. Biden was “one of the best pass receivers I’ve had as a coach in 16 years.” He also played freshman football at the University of Delaware.

O’Donnell asked him that as a former trustee, which of Sunday’s star quarterbacks would he rather play with: forty-three-year-old NFL legend Tom Brady, or 25-year-old reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes?

“Obviously, Brady is a great quarterback,” said Mr. Biden. Mahomes seems to have a lot of potential. And so I would probably take a chance with the young man I didn’t expect so much from. ‘

“Do you think the Kansas City Chiefs will win?” O’Donnell asked.

“Well, I didn’t say that,” said Mr. Biden. “I don’t know who’s going to win. I think they’re both great quarterbacks. One might be a younger version of an old, great quarterback. Not old. In NFL terms.”
