Biden holds meeting in Georgia on the eve of the second round of elections

President elect Joe Biden Launched the Democratic base in Atlanta on Monday ahead of the all-important Senate elections in Georgia.

Mr. Biden urged voters to cast their votes for Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock as they compete against current Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler. Republicans can keep their grip on the chamber if only one of their candidates wins, while Democrats must win both to reach a 50-50 split, which would allow Vice President Kamala Harris to make the casting vote.

“We’ve won three times here,” Mr Biden joked, referring to the Republican challenges to the election results that ultimately resulted in his victory.

The president-elect directly linked Democratic candidates to the $ 2,000 stimulus check bill that rejected Senate Leader Mitch McConnell a vote in the Senate.

“If you send Jon and the Pastor to Washington, those $ 2,000 checks will go out the door, restoring hope, decency and honor to so many people who are struggling now,” said Mr. Biden.

Mr. Biden isn’t the only high-profile person in the Peach State on Monday. President Trump rallies his supporters in the state Monday night, and Vice President Mike Pence urged voters to help the Senate maintain its Republican majority on Monday as well.

Mr. Biden won Georgia by over 11.00 votes, one of the biggest surprise flips in the 2020 presidential race. Last weekend, President Trump called Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and pressured him and other officials to find enough votes. in the state’s presidential election to make him the winner, according to the audio of the call from CBS News.

During the conversation, Mr Trump had revealed in a tweet On Sunday, the president said to Raffensperger, “All I want is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, that’s one more than we have. Because we won the state.”

A source familiar with the matter told CBS News that Raffensperger’s office had received 18 calls from Mr. Trump since November 3, but that Saturday was the first time the two officials made contact.

Both sides hope that the results of the presidential election will motivate their bases to come out.

The Republican incumbent Perdue led Ossoff, his Democratic opponent, by more than 80,000 votes, but failed to get the 50% needed to avoid a second round. The other race was a special election to fill the seat of outgoing Senator Johnny Isakson. Warnock received the most votes in his race, but prominent Republicans, incumbent Loeffler and Congressman Doug Collins, got more votes than he combined.

According to Georgia Votes, more than 3 million Georgians voted early, of which 2.07 million voted in person and 928,000 by mail.
