The Justice Department said it would not end lawsuits, as Biden’s overhaul of Trump’s immigration policy was not complete.
That’s why the Biden government has not withdrawn or dismissed the case in Hidalgo County, according to documents and interviews conducted by Politico.
DOJ sought continuation in pending cases, including in this case, in which the government had previously filed requests for land ownership on the southwest border in light of President Biden’s declaration to end the national emergency at the southern United States border. and conducting “ a careful review of all resources allocated or diverted to build a southern border wall, ” a DOJ official told the outlet.
A spokesman for the Office of Management and Budget told Politico that federal agencies are developing a plan to submit to the president shortly.
“Funds were diverted from military construction and other appropriated purposes to build the wall, and wall construction has been challenged in multiple lawsuits by groups alleged to have serious environmental and safety concerns,” the spokesman continued.
However, according to the outlet, the White House has not elaborated on why the review has been delayed.
According to Politico, about 114 lawsuits of a similar nature have progressed in one way or another since the review deadline.
The news comes after Biden has received heat from both Democrats and Republicans over his handling of an influx of migrants at the border amid the coronavirus pandemic.
