Biden admin on track to hit target of 100 million coronavirus shots in first 100 days

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden is on track to achieve his goal of getting 100 million Covid-19 shots in his first 100 days in office, White House coordinator Jeffrey Zients said Wednesday.

Biden had created some confusion about his vaccination goal after saying in his second week in office that he was pursuing a more ambitious goal of 1.5 million shots a day, forcing some members of his administration to roll back the number.

“We’ve made steady progress in recent weeks: getting more vaccine supplies, getting more vaccinators on the ground and creating more places to be vaccinated. first 100 days, ”Zients said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Zients said the administration takes an average of 1.5 million shots per day, up from 1.1 million two weeks ago.

The government also announced on Wednesday that it would set up three new mass vaccination centers in Texas as part of efforts to increase the number of Americans getting shot.

The vaccination centers will be in Ferris Plaza Park in Dallas, NRG Stadium in Houston and AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The Texas centers will collectively deliver more than 10,000 shots per day and are expected to open the week of Feb. 22.

Texas is the second state after California to receive a federal vaccination center. Both states have been hit hard by the pandemic.
