Beverly Hills Eatery reportedly planning indoor ‘Speakeasy’ NYE party attracts police interest – NBC Los Angeles

City officials are hoping to put the kibosh on the plans of a famous Beverly Hills restaurant for a New Year’s Eve dinner, which would violate the county’s health regulations banning in-person dining amid the recent surge in coronavirus cases.

La Scala, a gourmet Italian eatery at 434 N. Canon Dr., reportedly packed invitations in carry-on baggage to gauge customer interest in a ‘speakeasy’ type of party, but when the news broke on social media.

“The city has contacted representatives for La Scala directly (Dec. 24) to confirm the terms of the County Health Order,” said Beverly Hills Public Information Officer Keith Sterling.

“We understand this is an incredibly difficult time for all of our businesses, but the County Order currently bans eating indoors and outdoors, including in the city of Beverly Hills.”

City police also said they were aware of the plans.

“Thanks for tagging the BHPD. Beverly Hills Code Enforcement is on the alert and will address this issue,” the department tweeted on Friday.

Attempts to reach La Scala for comment on Saturday were unsuccessful.

A copy of the invitation on Twitter, written in italics, says, “Welcome back to the prohibition of the 1920s … We are currently taking reservations for the New Year’s Eve dinner. Inside.

“If this is something you would be interested in, please let us know as soon as possible. If there is enough interest, we will contact you to make a reservation. Please keep this discreet but tell all your friends . “
