Education secretary Betsy DeVos made a dramatic plea to staffers on Tuesday at a department-wide meeting to “be the resistance” following next month’s presidential transition, Politico reports. Citing a recording of the virtual encounter, Politico reports that DeVos first acknowledged that many staffers present would linger after the transition before falling into her Trumpian tangent. “Let me leave you with this plea: resist,” she said. ‘Be the resistance to forces that keep you from doing what’s right for students. Put the student first in everything you do – always. DeVos also reportedly stressed that she had always strived to do “what’s right for students” and pointed to her revision of Title IX rules on sexual assault as one of her greatest achievements. Her revision of the Obama policy era, which regulates how schools should deal with allegations of sexual assault, has been criticized for granting more rights to those accused of sexual assault in a way that critics say makes things much more difficult for survivors, President-elect Joe Biden has said that he plans to put a “quick end” to DeVos’ Title IX overhaul.
