Bethesda teases Elder Scrolls 6 institution

Wake up and clap your lore hats, Elder Scrolls fans. The Elder Scrolls VI may be a long way off, but that has never stopped anyone from trying to give details of where and when it can be set. The game gets back on track thanks to a map Bethesda posted with a message that could be a hint that ES6 will be heading to Hammerfell. Could be.

Here’s the full map below, that one Bethesda posted with the message “Transcribe the past and map the future. Happy New Year here! “It could just be a simple New Year’s greeting next to a Skyrim map or maybe it’s a cryptic hint about the The next Elder Scrolls game.

People online speculate that the placement of candles on the image is indicative of the future of the series. ‘Transcribe the past’ could refer to the candle next to Solitude, a key location in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. By that logic, the candle placed very clearly directly below the empty, unfilled space labeled “Hammerfell” is what we’ll be charting in the future, right?

Hammerfell, in the world of Tamriel, is the home of the Redguard people. It is a mostly dry place with the great Alik’r desert. It sure seems solid maybe that the original teaser trailer below and this new card are singing the same tune.

Then what about the third candle? It sits alongside a set of coins that were in the physical collector’s edition for The Elder Scrolls Online’s Greymoor expansion last year. Maybe it is something from the past, the present or the future? Heck, maybe the whole thing is an ESO-related teaser. Or maybe it’s just a fun message meant to drive fans wild.

Bethesda announced the next Elder Scrolls game in 2018 and has said very, very little about it since then. It’s years away, behind the space RPG Starfield in their production schedule, and far enough away that they have said we should probably be asking for details years from now. It would certainly be cheeky of them if this turns out to be some sort of TES6 hint.

If you missed the news in September, Microsoft bought Bethesda.
