Bernie Sanders declined an offer from Joe Biden to become Secretary of the Department of Labor

President-elect Joe Biden reported that he was seriously considering appointing Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont as Secretary of the Department of Labor, but agreed that the appointment would jeopardize democratic control of the United States Senate.

Biden revealed the detail today, Friday, by introducing Boston Mayor Marty Walsh as his applicant. He said he spoke with Sanders after Democrats won two seats in the Georgia Senate in Tuesday’s second election.

The Democratic leader indicated that he could think of no “more passionate and dedicated ally of the working people in this country” than the senator and that Sanders Walsh approves.

He also asked the Senate to quickly approve his cabinet nominees. His call comes two days after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol and tried unsuccessfully to prevent Congress from confirming Biden’s victory.
