“Ben & Jerry’s has gone to the dogs.” This is how today begins press release from everyone’s favorite ice cream maker, which gets way too much fun as it details the company’s latest product release: Doggie Desserts or Ice Cream for Your Pet.

The disposable ice trays, which come in two different flavors, are described as “tasty frozen treats perfect for your pet, specially formulated for dogs with a sunflower butter base.” That is, this ice cream is not really made of cream at all; it contains only a very limited amount of dairy and swaps in pumpkin puree good for the digestive system of dogs.

As discussed before, it’s quick and easy to whip up a batch of homemade dog ice cream with common household ingredients: yogurt, peanut butter, banana and bacon are all you need to create a decadent treat that will keep your dog forever (or the next few minutes). But I think it’s also a lot of fun going to the grocery store and packing your dog’s pint in the freezer next to your own as if you were stocking up on your big one Bachelor education night viewing party together.

“Pontch’s Mix” is a combination of peanut butter and pretzel swirls, and “Rosie’s Batch” includes pumpkin and cookies; they are sold in multipacks as well as individual cups. Here is where you can check if it is available near you.

Ben & Jerry’s has clearly understood that we all harbor an unhealthy obsession with our dogs FAQ page on its website indicating that, yes, you humans can try eating Doggie Desserts too, although it may taste a bit bland for our more gusty palate. Do not lick the same bowl as your pet.
